The Great Victorian Rail Trail is a multi-use trail and can be explored on foot, bike or horse. This easily accessible, varied and unique rail trail offers close proximity to heritage classified rivers, majestic valleys, lakes and mountains.
Strutting into Spring on the Great Victorian Rail Trail. Horse riders can ride along the length of the GVRT. The main track is shared with walkers and cyclists, but separate horse trails are marked alongside the main trail in many places.
Water and horse yards are available at designated spots, but you may need to arrange your own water and tie-up facilities if you`re planning a longer ride. New artwork feature: `Soul Train` by @louise_paramor, located between Cathkin and Yarck in @discoverdindi.
Soul Train is suggestive of the engine car of a steam train and hints at the growth of industry and agriculture. The original model for the sculpture is a playful combination of colour and form. It was made up of everyday objects such as wooden building blocks, parts from children’s games, a toothbrush holder and a sauce bottle lid. Soul Train is designed to celebrate the rail history of the area in the form of a surprising and colourful ‘folly’.

We recommend the 9km easy uphill ride from Yea Station to Cheviot Tunnel, with a fun downhill roll back into Yea.

New artwork feature: `Responding` by @robbie_rowlands located in @visitmansfieldmtbuller.
Responding is a thought-provoking 39m artwork resembling a mobile phone tower that gracefully arches over the Great Victorian Rail Trail.
In their usual display, phone towers sit at heights well above the landscape or our built environments. Here, the tower appears animated, falling close to the ground as if bowing to meet us. In this way, the technological function of transmission – of receiving and responding to signals – becomes a personal interaction between the viewer, the artwork and the landscape.
This new artwork was created by Melbourne-based artist Robbie Rowlands. Through his practice, he explores everyday environments and materials to create immersive sculptural and media-based outcomes. With a focus on working specifically with each site and community, his outcomes seek to develop unique awareness and connections to subjects that are often overlooked.
